My training, education, and interests have led me to an approach that is inherently and implicitly the integration of east and west.
After much trial and error, and exhaustive study across the spectrum, I believe you need both to master this reality.
What do I mean by this? I mean that setting goals, overcoming obstacles, and accumulating achievements are great. Strategies and tactics are a must. Learning as much as possible as quickly as possible is a no-brainer. But progress is not enough.
You will inevitably come up against something that you cannot blast through, no matter how smart, determined, or focused you are. It might be an issue with your children or a relationship you can’t control. Perhaps it’s an identity crisis or the loss of a loved one. Maybe it’s a global crisis.
Ultimately, if you do not master your mind, you will always be at the mercy of external circumstances.
Don’t get me wrong; I am all about checking boxes. From skiing to academics, I have been an overachiever in almost everything I’ve done. And I am all about learning things as fast as you can and doing things efficiently as possible. That’s why I controlled every aspect of my education and career. I do believe you make yourself and your destiny is a choose-your-own-adventure book – it’s why I became a Tony Robbins Master Coach.
And then I had children…. and the universe laughed in my face at my ability to make anything happen as planned. In my effort to control, I became a parenting coach, and when that didn’t “work,” a consciousness coach. Mindfulness is a survival mechanism rather than a buzzword in my marketing collateral.
